The Grandparents

Kit's grandparents always send us great gifts for Christmas. The gifts usually come with handmade ornaments that his grandfather carved. When it comes to what we will get from them it's usually a struggle to decide. What do you get for a couple that seem to have the things what they want. We decided that handmade for handmade might work. I couldn't go with the apron and pot holder thing because I did that the year before. So we decided on my last tangible talent.

I'm a little rusty. I haven't picked up graphite in a while and my lack of practice shows. Kit seemed to think that it was turning out fine.( probably because he didn't have to do anything but provide prospective.)

The frame made it to Minnesota just fine and the grandparents liked it. Now we have about 11 months before we rack our brains on the next gift.

Does anyone have time to spare? Lost all of mine

It's no secret that I have once again joined the land of the unemployed. You would think that would leave me with a lot of time to get things done. Well to my surprise it hasn't. There was one day last week that I actually said I had free time and nothing to do with it. Big mistake!
Just when I was ready to sit down and recover a yoga bolster that was given to me (Thanks Patty). I was hit with a load of requests for other projects that took up most of my time. Before I knew it Christmas season was in full swing and I had not started on any of the gifts. I decided to make a few because it would be better on my non-existent budget.

A few months ago, I saw one of my nieces’ for the first time in a while. When I saw her she was making pink cupcakes. So when I saw the above cupcake fabric and whenever I see a cupcake, I and immediately think of her. I still have to put together her tea towel and the pot holders and get them in the mail. I have made 3 sets so far.

There are 2 other projects that need to be completed before Christmas. I'm about to run out now and get this 40lb box off to Minnesota. Then replace the bottom of my neighbors 100 year old chair and just in case you’re wondering, no I have not completed the yoga bolster yet. Where does the time go???????

Coming apart at the seams….

I received a call from a friend that a co-worker posted on their internal ForSale.com website that she need someone repair her sofa and she also needed slip covers for 2 chairs that she found on-line. I was recommend by 2 people. :-) So off I went over to have a look.

The sectional pieces looked like they were not tied properly at 3 different corners of the sofa. Maybe it was a machine error, or the saying is true, they just don’t take the time to make things like they use to. This is the second fairly new sofa that needed repairs in the last 2 months. Good for me me but not so much if you paid good money for your sofa. I closed the ends with a blind stitch using upholstery thread so that the repair wont be seen.

Shoni went shopping for her fabric and found two that she liked. One was a micro-suede and the other was a multi-colored Repp (traditional woven fabric with a dominant rib running in the weft direction). She had extra fabric left over so I made 3 throw pillows.

I tried my hand at a log cabin quilted pillow in the micro-suede. I thought it was very cute. I do need to work on my quilt pattern.
