That's all the sewing that's required one seam in the elastic.
After you have measured the waist and sewn the seams together all that's left is cutting and loop tying.

Here are the 3 colors i have chosen for my daughters.
She is 6 months old. so her waist is pretty tiny. About 10 inches of elastic. I only purchased a yard of each color.
I cut the tulle into 4x10 inch strips.

I found that it was easier for me to add one color at a time.
Then go back in and add the next in order Pink yellow orange, then repeat.

This was you can decide if you want to mix or layer the colors. You simple
shift the knot a litter higher or lower around the elastic depending on where you want them.
Personally I like the layered look a little better.
Here is the finished product.

Here is what it looks like on my little one.
I tied a few scraps on a headband for a little flair.

I have let the year go by taking little to no photos of the items that I have completed. I was simply to tired to take them or I just forgot. I finally got around to completing most of Elizabeth's nursery. The one thing that I hate I haven't gotten to yet is her Quilt. I have purchased the fabrics for it but I am having a problem with execution. Time gets interesting to manage with a 5 month old around. She is on my lap as I type trying her best to get to the keys.
I was really fortunate to receive her crib from a dear friend that no longer needed it because her little one was ready for a big boy bed. Brinda was nice enough to donate the bookshelf so we didn't have to purchase one. I had been holding on the $15 chair from the local H4H Re-Store. I decided to recover it in a light grey Duck cloth. The side table I pick up at the local thrift shop for $7. I painted it and added the trim around the top.

Her dresser that I picked up from the Garage brothers from use to hold my fabric but they have been given the boot! I did have to change the drawer pulls because the originals were a little to sharp for little hands. The rug and crib mattress are pretty much the only new items in the room. I even managed to get out of making her mobile. Nikki's husband Steve made the ceiling paper poufs for m baby shower they hosted and I thought they would make a great addition to her room. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. So that most likely means she will turn 3 and want all my handmade work changed to pink!!!Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-90777766650884832012013-12-12T20:03:00.001-05:002013-12-12T20:03:46.827-05:00Over a Year!Wow! It's been over a year since my last post. And this one will be short. My 11+ pound dictator is asleep in the next room and I am stealing this time from some important task....like the piles of laundry in my bedroom!
I never got around to posting the nursery Items that I made for Maria. Here they are. I promise to put Elizabeth's nursery next. And soon.... Here is the Quilt for her little boy. The bumper. The crib Skirt and the last is the window valence.

I always seem to add more to my plate than what seems reasonable This year is no different. You would think that my erratic yoga teaching schedule, Etsy shop and baking I would be busy enough. But NO! I have to add a half marathon and dinner guest to the list! I also managed to add Bronchitis to the list! (running in 35 degree weather was against Dr's orders) Hooray for antibiotics!
If you have visited SarenaVictoria.Etsy.com and thought that there were slim pickings then I am here to explain that the reason is below.

I took a lot of product to the market place. I've not found the time to photograph most of the product that I have had on location but will try to get that done soon. I would love to see you in person so if you have time and are planning any shopping in Cary, NC. Please stop by and say Hello! We would love to see you.
You can also find some of our Yoga related items in person that would make great gifts at Hillsborough Yoga and Healing Arts Center. They have scarves, yoga blankets and slings. And Very soon I will be adding legwarmers to the mix! Its getting chilly!Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-33785159403997838842012-11-01T17:24:00.000-04:002012-11-04T07:43:27.699-05:00Porters Dog Biscuts from Spent Beer GrainMost of the grain from Kit's beer brewing goes in the compost. But some of it goes in freezer bags or straight to the kitchen for "The Porter's" treats. I like to make them rather than buy them not so much because I am a crazy Dog lady! I'm so far from that but because a few years ago when we purchased the last few bags of treats from the big pet store the bag was full of those little res bugs! Yuck Out went the bag. and in came a friend with this recipe. Even if you dont brew as someone for the spent grain if you know a brewer.

Here is what you will need. 8 cups of spent grain
4 cups of whole wheat flour
3/4 cup of extra flour for rolling
2 cups of water
2 cups of peanut-butter

Heat the water and peanut-butter in a saucepan. It turns into a thick soup consistency which makes it easier to blend.

I use pretty small cookie cutters because it easier to train him with small rewards and they dry out a lot quicker. Use what you have on hand, remember the bigger they are the longer they take to cook.

Let them bake for 2.5 hours at 325 F. Then lower to 180-200 for 3 hours or until completely dried out. I leave them in the oven with the door closed overnight before placing them in an airtight container. Remember the have to dry out completely or they will mold.

I took my 2nd trip to northern Minnesota. To celebrate The Grandparents 70th Wedding Anniversary. Could you imagine being with the same person for 75 years and still being happy with each other. It was a lovely and rare thing to be a part of and witness. However the occasion did present a dilemma. What do you get the couple that has been able to collect what they wanted for 3/4 of a century?
The idea came from my brother in law Jesse and his "Sweetheart" Sheena. (that's the title my mother in law gave her during introductions at the party)

On a recent visit Grand Eleanor expressed to them an interest in having her kitchen chairs recovered. She said that there were too many butts with hunting knives in there back pockets that damaged her vinyl. Sheena found a great fabric shop not too far from her place in St Paul where we picked up a great print in blue and white. I wish I had taken note of the name. They had wonderful selections of fabric...oh well. I'll up date If I remember.
We took the seats off and gave them a little more cushion at Ray's request.
The actual seat was pretty small so we only purchased a 1/2 yard per chair.
The stuffing was covered in batting before the new vinyl went on to smooth over any lumps.

Did I mention that it only took Sheena and I a little over 2 hours. Using borrowed tools, In one of the most old-fashioned organized garages I have ever seen( that was a big help). We were all done with the taking apart, washing( Thanks Sheena, cat hair and I are not friends) stuffing, stapling, and re-assemble in time enough to get ready for the party.

See Grandpa Approved! I cant mention this quick and impromptu project with letting you know that Ray has an 8 track in his garage and as soon as Sheena went for her I phone to turn on Pandora, Ray powered up the 8 track full blast with the sounds of Buck Owens...Wow

I also have to mention that the Grandsons were drinking beer in the sauna and making brief trips to dunk themselves in a cold lake while there "sweethearts" were working on their grandparents chairs.
Apparently Grandpa's, I'm here to do my ladies bidding(his words) attitude didn't get passed down that far.

When I see them I just smile. I made the quilt and received a request for a skirt to match. I think I may have to do these colors again.

The two main ones are, old but strong and the new and so not worth it. The newer ones are made from lightweight knotted pine that will buck at anything over 200lbs put on them. Also there are a lot of staples underneath and lots of cardboard where wood should be. If you were to pick them up they are more lightweight that they should be. They suck unless they are just for show not for sitting.(FYI If you have children they wont last long)

This was an older chair that Jenny was having re-upholstered for her"husband's room" in the basement. The frame is in good shape. However the suspension system had been comprised over time. The spring system had to be re-worked,which may require you to break a sweat but it is completely worth it.

Take pictures, before and during your upholstery. As much as you hate the old fabric from the sometimes stinky chair you may want to keep it for a pattern. Take detailed pictures of how it is pieced and where tuck and seams are placed. Continue taking pictures as you rip off the old fabric. You never know where some secret to securing the fabric may be hidden. I only post a few photos on the blog but I really have about 2 dozen during photos.
Do not skip steps. Check out your chair fully before moving on to the next step.
Get the right tools but they don't have to be new. Check out Craigslist or thrift stores.

I learned that upholstery is very little sewing and more nailing and folding. It does take planning and some creative manipulation. I lightly tack fabric as you go and then going back and secure it in place once you are sure the fabric is where you want it.
Jenny no longer wanted the buttons that were on this chair. I cant say that I blame her. ( If you see something that looks like this don't instantly walk away it may have a new life ahead of it.) If you paid $20-$30 for a chair like this and spent $60 on the 5yds of fabric to cover it yourself you will have made out like a bandit.
Lets say that you don't want to do the work yourself. Shop around for the labor and you may be able to find a reasonable price without breaking the bank.Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-1010562733084716232012-07-06T10:41:00.001-04:002012-07-06T10:42:31.888-04:00Kitchen Window Valance with GrommetsI received a request to make a set of kitchen valances. They are pretty simples item to make. That is until you add the grommets. Marla picked up the "no tools required kit from Joanns fabric. I had never used them before but it seemed pretty cut and dry. In the past the ones that required you to put some muscle behind them and things could go wrong.

Although the package said no tools required I would recommend having really good scissors or using what I did which was my 18mm rotary cutter. There is not a lot of room for error with these if you go outside the lines of the template. You run the risk of having a gap between the fabric and the ring. I would also use "No Fray" or what I did hot glue to prevent unraveling. I figured that this way I would not have to worry about the strength of the snap closure holding up to a medium weight & lined material. Other that that they seem like a pretty good product.

I think they came out very nice. Marla likes them and I'm sure her little ones are happy that they can eat their breakfast now without the sun in there eyes.

I went into a couple of Garden stores and I can see why people want to get them recovered. These are Gina's old cushions and pillows. Aside from it being more economical to recover them, hers couldn't simply be replaced because of their unique shapes. There wasn't much wrong with the foam or the actual chairs. But when you have a 2 school age kiddos things can get a little messy. Add to that all the damage from humidity that living in brings you may need new slip covers.

I love, love, love the color that she picked out. I ran into 2 problems on this project. One was that I made a fabric estimation error. I should have checked my chart. The bad result was that I ran out of fabric before I got to her throw pillows. I made up a pattern with scraps and some vinyl that was left over from another project.

The other issue is that I'm pretty sure that one of the bottom seats is in its slipcover upside down. I don't know why they call them slipcovers because you really do have to wrestle them in all the while trying not to break the zippers.

These are Natascha's bench concussions. She wanted a change. I think that the stripes look very cute and will go great in her entry hall. This was pretty simple and quick one had a broken zipper that needed to be replaced.

The new fabric is not as bulky as the old so the new cushions look smaller. But the new stripes should be easier to keep clean.

She saw my blog post of the ones I made for Ytina and contacted me. I love that they both let me create them for their homes. I also like both of the fabrics they chose. It was a great choice on both of their parts. The only difference is that the ones for Nic are for outdoor use. The one thing that always bothered me were the dangling straps of the ties.

The "FIX" that I came up with is velcro, because duck tape would look tacky. It is a bit of a pain to sew on this tiny space.

You know the grumpy old guy from Dennis the Minus or is dog sitting not for me...
Lately it seems like when ever get asked to dog sit and I agree to it, something goes wrong. I wont go into what the 2 different golden retrievers have done inside my house. (cause I just had lunch)!
But I ask the question now because the dog that is over now has been over for less that 24 hours is somehow offended by my grass. It looks like she has decided to remove it.

This is a space that Gina created above the entrance to the foyer in her home. I can completely understand why she did. I have a vaulted foyer and I find that I look at it as completely wasted space.

Gina found her fabric and the foam she wanted to use. ** Warning If at all possible don't by foam with out a coupon if you can help it. The price of that stuff will give you sticker shock, especially if you need 70 inches of it.****

I made a removable cover to go on the seat. This will allow her to be able to remove it if it needs washing. The space is primary for her little ones to hang out and do their homework.
As she puts it to get there things out of her dining room. Gina picked out a great contrasting blue for the throw pillows. The pillow in the middle is the left over fabric.
Looking at this photo, it kinda makes me long for a rainy day so that I can curl up with the book that I cant seem to find the time to finish!Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-72907733142618860352012-03-22T19:02:00.008-04:002012-03-22T19:33:27.489-04:00For the Love of ColorBrinda has an unabashed love of color and she's not ashamed of it, nor should she be.
Here is the room she works in when she is home.
I got a call from her after received some crazy over the top quote for new drapes. After the sales lady left she called me to ask me if I thought she received a good price I said NO! Just in-case your wondering it was over $1000. No that's not a typo.
So after some fabric shopping, a lot of yoga, a trip out of the country, wedding planning, and a couple of months in between....
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjLhOgxOQqZiP76Qj5yQkJv6MQ4mLcB5ruCog9l1xTCNpZfgsWmZoBZPU9BD1sYSVMO-MqjtqWyGqwKg1CxfgXUCXIrhkw5iL8dh6z49uXJu9tozukWLX3DJIpsfo6W0Q7Zg8Xo45TpD_n/s320/BR+drapes+%25281%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5722863558464291778" />
Brinda now has pinch pleat back tab drapes to give a cozy feeling to her sunshine room. JJ's aunt found these chairs at a yard sale. For some reason she did not want to keep this fabric.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnQmE9Eh_SkFxrcgXJ2BgbcYc8VqqPAHdYfYG2C3M7b1mVRMZrB25mqaH7A2YFpW8-cZpLgbuZ8KFy7G32pWJFqFHA7WVPrgPwcRNHknERNN9F-7xzR8PCyQbtVYJn1m10VrzLonTal_L4/s320/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713271359709675394" />
The tear down seems to take the most time. There were a lot of staples in the two of the chairs. A lot of staples….. It was as if someone left their finger on the trigger gun. After I removed the wine colored lightning bolts I discovered that it needed some reinforcements. I can’t promise that the back support is not a plastic black tarp.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFCpyLQ7um6c1uSJM8eqelu2oetA3dUkPln2XQdoE_o3Ma4PEf8ODNPRZnt2eH2vok86ejN668hyphenhyphen9jm_4UaCyaZ6cMKWMMdrnpG5vOGmUWByIgtgk9bm52QhtmAwvKverByV_8w4ZDydI3/s320/022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713270015294507586" />
I also discovered that someone use to live in one of the chairs. Robin saw it and fell in love. She was supposed to be looking for chair fabric and found her self side tracked. She was thinking about her bed room and I was thinking that I really didn't want to match up a printed fabric. As you can see below I had to do it any way
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8phwXG0JL7duf5FTpCx5oZv34E83yG-B-iEI7-mdsUpAa4sdRgid6kJpu1TOWuBAQqZpSrlYuviWb80_EtAaKY1fEZgxTvpfsD_X9AfNbvLdykFo_s9RQZVk19dz8Mxym2DeZgiDzgAaP/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701403000319185314" />
So apparently there is a Fiori Stripe Fabric that complements the scroll fabric. Apparently a reversible duvet became a new good idea.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWQ0PJDsAi0vp_2chpP2NkxrY4mBrLKNFoSaII6fr98Tp8jtF-CIVb7cD2reBVMJTpjVDgeMC3S11TmW0Z2FWx971z4sLXOQf5Bin_Jq5hld2oz6OJn3BxfEO6a1awFkbaIUHK0qK8tR2Q/s320/008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701402745403758754" />
This is my first duvet set. We did not factor in the 2 pillow shams. They are made from the leftover fabric scraps. You cant tell as much from the front as you can from the back. And that's why I left that picture unseen. I'm glad that I was able to squeeze them in.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDoGTELX4Y6pn6IndJeEsvLHBuDP_sMKo4xDFp-NM2AuM8fs_-FjoebQIfWEDr8dIV-_w8XdZZ4l-u-_QqHA_a3KFlI5TUWkL0XDqsC3xf5O5iA3tdioTEZzOo_rWae9pJ5r401F-WbdE7/s320/011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701402511499743330" />
This is my guest room not the new home for the set. It fared OK, on the inside but not so much on the outside. It has some moisture damage around the bottom skirt but as you can see I tore that part away along with the rest of it. The skirt is a little dated so it was not replaced.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9egg_C5YA-44VADn0l2jFp0-IEFqcB3ZYZvlSpNrdtGc6soBKhCgZ3u5_byaaiVBe8mdOiZIvL0Enj_XgehFcCzusZ3j4_m3o3xbon6GV49ApejYF31RNh4YQm7r7ZGgy4VPDKq0O4CnJ/s320/IMG_0177.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700614682930588226" />
I always take a dozen pictures just in case I cant remember how it is to go back together. I'll just say Happy New year and I'm glad to see it.
One of the things that I managed to get done lately is lay out and sew together this blanket for The Grandparents. I don't want to call it a quilt because there wasn't a lot of quilting with it but it still came out pretty cute. The story that goes with it is almost just as cute.
Its hard to think about what to get for people that have been around for 9 decades. But one day Lynne (Kits mom) was on the phone talking about how Eleanor and Raymond (the Grandparents) were talking about how cold it was.(It's a Northern Minnesota Winter) and that she had a blanket that she just loved an wished they had another.
Lynn asked where she got it from because maybe she could get one for Christmas. Eleanor said that it was a wedding gift......They have been married for 69 years. I'm pretty sure that its out of production.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihycM7c96Zhzob4KQaWLrbVproMQlWKP4AqaX8TGYsrUmpntF-cjCJQIT7pV4UGMfmCWfVgCMsUJlFVDOlwAWt8l95EsIcBoYYIRn2XIxlXP1-AjIQ5HspUBlEh3j73rjN2CxGtT3W9cRs/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694719349602711202" />
So I produced this one. This is where I question my layout, on the bed.
Eleanor loves bright colors. Do you think I covered that that part?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkItatyf9OFWnYOXFz2RKErTuFsEalqivSYH2FXDI9GX1KXnTWLa8hzCHpLpHsfDJVlohgEcnIZoHLa7vxhKtEanlRx6ALMBGNMIQSw6pLOC-QFn7cUum1b_J7S4f09PoFTSmtiS3WGF2u/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694718933200098962" />
I added the brown,green & tan so that Raymond wouldn't have pink and fuchsia dreams as they approach their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Its the gift that would keep on giving and its the least I could do since she gave me the machine to make it with.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 211px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2J6ONF-0GGi2wEf1rAcUBBZewJmeCuT-0gIU4HIQUSBie746bTogOh8rBLCFr_W6Il_rtns3-BfEs8otK0ke-IMDN3bLnKmyaR1vID9Wt-VJzkTpgGstEysUZoTIvMBa-Pevnqnnc3D5_/s320/008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694719892031152290" />Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-63985617185616247612011-10-21T14:30:00.010-04:002011-10-21T14:45:04.200-04:00Sewing ClothingI'm not the greatest at making clothing. I learned today that they are also called snoods in the UK. I believe that they are also referred to as infinity scarves. I like them on shirts or just the cowl by it's self. I really want a chunky orange one for this winter but I cant knit. I have tried to learn but so far no luck.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgydjIRKOnOHQtlTD671fyprT_B297WvgKeC_6cNcZZmdDoHwaAtFPinS2e4aveeN502HdeRiMzOAdQEn5JH6mvfDR3ZUKO3t-o7-VLVjYiuxDvnM5isYVlay31MuMH1H_tN246DcTkoqjX/s320/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657235371353308162" />
I made this ivory one but luckily I found knit fabric for a reasonable price. My answer is always the same. "Nothing"
Truth be told that's a Big Fat Lie!
Since before I was laid off , almost a year ago I have been working on a project that means more to me than any of ones in the past.
Kit and I have been trying to add to our little family. I know that it doesn't seem like that would take up much time, considering we pretty much have the act down and we are good at it. Actually we are pretty good a making babies also....Just not so good at keeping them alive past the 1st trimester. Since the first miscarriage last year we have loss 3 pregnancies.
That last statement usually starts with "I" and I have to keep reminding myself that the loss was not mine alone. Kit has been really supportive. Especially considering that I haven't been working and hospitals and insurance companies bill you about the same cost, baby or not.
I have to keep reminding myself to stop blaming me, because its really easy to beat yourself up, thinking that I could have done something about it. I know that medically it was out of my hands. Its hard to stop the Why me?, and the It's not fair!, and the crazy jealousy of others. My internal dialog has been terrible towards myself because hate to fail. And this feels like an Epic failure. I have this incredible need to go all in and hands on and fix things and I cant fix this.
That's the part that has taken up so much of my energy, desire to work on anything creative, or even get out as much as I should.

After the 3rd loss we were referred to an Infertility specialist who assured us that 3 losses to them were no big deal. I think they should try being on the other side of the desk. The amount of testing that you have to do is insane. We both came out with a clean bill of health, but I have been given the label "Advanced Maternal Age". After 2 rounds of Injection cycles and now the discovery of Uterine fibroids that may need to be removed. When I stop and consider the losses, cost and the potential damage to my health and relationship, I think I have come to terms with the idea that this may not happen.

I am coming back around to being me. I have managed to dump 10 of the 18 pounds that I picked up this year being depressed (self medicated with food). If I could find work, that would be great but with this economy I'm not holding my breath.
At first I was glad that I was not working. I felt like I needed to be alone but now I know, I need to get out. I have gotten out more to workout dates with friends and picked up on the frequency of my yoga practice. It really does help put things in prospective.
Kit and I have talked about me going back to school. I have to give it more thought because I never really thought of a serious career. I've always considered work as just work. It was just something you did to provide the necessities so you could enjoy your life and family. I'll have to focus on it more now since I may not get hired the one career field that I really wanted.....

I want to a great big thank you to the people that have let me bend their ears back with all my chatter. This is my equivalent for crying on shoulders since I'm not one for crying in front of others, I am eternally great full for you checking in on me every week. And thank you the one who have helped me dodge questions that I could not answer at the time (You know who you are). If by chance I have pushed away from you in the past year please know that it had nothing to do with you, it was not personal.

One thing that I have learned is not to take things and people for granted. The other is that when someone is dealing with a medical condition like infertility I will never tell them to relax and not stress, because then and it will happen. Maybe its me but that just grates on my nerves. You would never tell some one to relax away any other diagnosis. (except maybe stress)
I will get back to projects & posting soon. I still have a chair that needs to be recovered. I have the fabric. The chair and fabric have been sitting in the corner looking at me looking at it......I'm gonna tackle it......Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-3734504938455023102011-07-31T11:50:00.007-04:002011-07-31T12:18:38.118-04:00Yoga gets slipperyI've found myself in yoga class more lately. With things a little hairy around here I've needed some help staying centered. Anne a friend has recently completed her Yoga certification. She wanted to practice her teaching and was kind enough to as me to be one of the familiar faces in front of her.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOgVH95qaKJMAPlRck6R6A-o7M6TTeVPU3Dyn2aokIJl97cA72A3kJNizCSUVAX45CQ_Wyuk40ia5_qdA4Y83CHaEo0Mej4JMMMWABy5m6tBms3ldcwXOKAseEATVC9oMV1LTCti1gWkm7/s320/022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635544640371678130" />
It doesn't matter how cold or hot the room is when I am practicing the results are always the same. I sweat as if I am in Death Valley. I wish that I could blame it on the extra 15lbs that I have been caring around the past year but I have always been this way. Ever tried to stay in downward dog with sweaty palms and feet. I feel like I'm about to face plant.(not the four-limed staff style) I've tried to practice on a regular towel but it nor I stay in place. I decided to make-myself one out of micro fiber towel fabric. I added grip to the back so that it could hold on to my mat while I hold on to it. I also made this one for Anne as a thanks for getting me out of the house. I know I could have grabbed a plain one but why would I want to cover my mat with that.Sarena Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11530117498088725772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024796363214145022.post-68866252172435536422011-07-01T12:57:00.004-04:002011-07-01T15:11:32.664-04:00Its HOT in here!I know that vaulted ceilings are designed to let light in to the foyer but they also let in heat.
I've always felt like it is wasted space. I think that it would have been a better use of space to make the master bedroom larger. The level of heat that comes off the window is ridiculous. So I decided that it needed to be covered with black out shades. There were two problems with my solution.
The first is that it is very expensive to cover a 60 inch window and the other is that it has to be hung up and there is no easy access.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOWeu7ONfA8wIoz_RkGvnvfDlXKKq_5agFjw9aVHYYlTHnqIGLj1MrXaowuvKTEsIYZllyiJ6Wx5Nt4znfmxntpOjxfO3uI-VVBQPQshawnjgTt3AKJ53lSoxs1bWBtnG10FeCRtI4s9OD/s320/040.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624429177775492498" />
The solution that I found was to buy mini blinds and turned them into roman shades. I found some blinds on the clearance table at Lowe's for $15. They were two inches short. But I felt that I could compensate with fabric to close the space in the window.
Jo Ann's Fabric had black-out on sale for 40% off so I purchased a couple of yards. I had some Tan colored fabric at home that would be a good choice. Then I removed all the slats from the blinds, all but 10. I doubled them up for strength. and hand sewed around the slats spaced about 10 inches apart. This way I would have 5 folds. I think it came out pretty well and it does reduce the amount of heat that comes in.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoGVEE29vgucHZGiD3k5rKg9wEVHHn37eVHh-oe7wN71uD6VUhQGV9WP3Jbpu0XmzlOz7mrFKk1zs5jYq07vR0TNxqkoN8n705qQrhRVD1775mGPxDDKUOaZQINNp3wOp_8chmke2PSQWg/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624429368575667730" />
Kit pulled the ladder from under the house and I held it as he cursed the heat and the drill as it was installed. There's my purse, gym bag, work bag( when working) and then there's Kit's contribution. My solution was to get a credenza to fit it all. However that was not in my budget. This dresser from Ytina was, because it was free. (Thanks again Ytina)
In the photo below it's on its side because I started working on tearing it to pieces before I remembered to take a before photo and I didn't want to set it down again. I tossed out the 6 drawers that were in it. I also removed the curvy bottom.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvozMLvYgt-V9emCmFXzYxhshliPtbNV61wVV3ZL_cX9mJeWJ6ZjKeR_RGmvJ8xLz0uhQEH_BzCjegOrP0lrFQUwUX4Yn-ZIRJIQLj2YsJkFyBY7Ev76hbT1kaYVRzY_o-elgZcw0joeJ/s320/100_2949.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5618249310464808866" />
I spent $20 on two packages of bead board to cover the sides and $10 on 1x4's for the top. I didn't want the cadenza to sit on the floor but I couldn't find any feet/legs in my budget. My solution was to buy 4 wood post at $14. (3.5 each) I had to remove the galvanized fastners from the post centers before I added them to the new base.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGFFtfqXSp6rwjQDAHC3FW044-n1sfmHviLlFLctGsK61VU98fDVY-Zk51XS0GScnJXtOA7KneQfAceBiFy16dguaxsozjKJ34tSNbPOMJjWc5zSV2_zNakYnujiR2Sbb1H_QEnH-qmTqs/s320/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5618248358077030162" />
Once I removed the rails form the inside I added one newly craft papered shelf to each side. The shelf is made from scrap particle board that I had in the garage. I made the doors from the the left over bead board & trim. ($12)
The next thing I did was to practice anger management. I beat it up with hammer, screw driver and a a chain to give it some personality. I used sage green spray paint for the base.($8) The next day I went over every thing with a watered down brown paint that I had at home. I ragged off the excess before it dried. Then went over the entire thing with a matte glaze($3) so that it would look old but loved.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUThH5Ux2gM-AcYfY_zpr4oaacUGlr-jyp-5uYdVhoVo2O-KfyQDXX3OUQ8IDL8LoVrJFVUytJL-5YXzXmMuXJ1A1VwoYdsT8tY7GSqNgk067HVYDiAx0DeCnE2lEq6BmZqTwE1zB-iV3F/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5618248046506573186" />
I thought it was best to use hardware that was not modern. Kit is training for Lake Placid so Porter and I are on our own. We did have to take time out to visit the parents in Minnesota. (My first time) Kit's grand Elenore was holding on on to him walking down the street.
I love this photo because he has to lean over for her to take his arm.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiONATbEExBzJmv985rCgKvgBICPkQGRemnNkPgbFqvw6CDbUfx9dzpImMQGKMXEqcMQFokktY2EOUP2ymUXyaGxMay7ZdVBhFYp1zeHXn0D-j31u20ZMY0uQZTjbSI6dshkLMNkdUYPE8v/s320/IMG_20110514_154457.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617151058652985666" />
Before we left to go on the trip I was bitten by a tick. (another first) When we got back my blood work came back positive for Lyme. What are the odds on that.
The cakes below are what I was up to this weekend.
Its funny because no one was sure last week if they needed cake or not. Of course they all became certain the same week that my Grand goes in the hospital due to a mini stroke. She is back at home now. Thank god. And the three trips out of town this week to visit her did not slow down my baking......
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf9__Q21mFRBRO5-8swkOxBLz3DbEzG1_2TDmhJvD-HdYh9HyKydcQLLm_Dd6fEQAzlWNrKRnkY_wsENCgjBCryRNkHwBaY4oOVxvefObYqP7XrITkkpoZBeS1mxyWoq-gD6ORDLwfqyg9/s320/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617150590627604066" />
Strawberry Shortcake
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAuLZPb9GHPPktMTDQpXU7NAE0QqojrrSrIFeX5NHtp5-zpxs9LsDK3PO_GIAUcyor-WItNQu8I70t9bzL5khuZmwCNy5prTuL44AlXE3OU2IRdBMkVy8JrGNoBRPbytn8Wv0WiW5jGtdW/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617149968606381778" />
Dads gone fishing
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCIqhdTwRcPFA4zYR6nVMhueU2Deugo4-x0aXfCkFGh5QzfihJQux6xF4EgZ6phPqMZuCZvbglo5wVz1Wc4E94M-LVE4TvXouP34bA8qVWt3S6lEIhG4I5csnbamEqKoxu6hvECPydrQ48/s320/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617149538687741986" />
High school is so over
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpnBHMg548LCDoq4PIsjamfOD0p2StL-OF4jVFAsSs3UqGmyzGnbmjKNol21iFzxJVPuJl_3ZieIiHU7V7lZgUNC-bSx_M9_hWiicEyBGWf6Etu9pvPwzKrCv9E3a5jqWvpaYSLeY8hE2u/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617149398585366434" />
Autobot
I have refinished a credenza and made roman shades. I plan to post but I have to add hinges to the credenza and the shades have to be hung but since they are going in the foyer over the door.
